“Can You Even Hear Me?”

“Can You Even Hear Me?” sprouts from the immobolization of not knowing what’s going on in one’s body and mind, an issue tightly linked to gender, standards of beauty, and perfectionism. This work was made during Josie Burck’s struggles with an eating disorder, each piece a regurgitation unique to a specific moment and time. Deeply rooted in her childhood, Josie utilizes feminine objects to act as an extension of her body, as well as to reflect on memories from her youth.
